SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

 

All students will be able to check out at least three books.  The kindergartners will be starting the year out with 1 book.  The students may come back at any time during the week to check out more books.  When students bring back a book, they then can check out another book.  This is teaching them responsibility toward library books!

The kindergarten class are listening to stories and learning finger plays.  I will be discussing "taking care of books."

The first grade class will talking about alphabetizing authors names.  They will be reviewing library rules.They will be introduced to the parts of books, such as author, title, publisher, title page and table of contents.

The second grade class will practice finding fiction books on the shelf using the first three letters of an author's name.The second graders will also be reviewing parts of the book.

The third grade class will discuss choosing the "right" book that meets their specific reading need.  The class will be listening to a Indian folktale story.  The students will also be working on a dictionary assignment.The students will be reading some Caldecott award books.

The fourth and fifth graders will be reviewing rules of the library.  The students will identify fiction and nonfiction books!  The students will also work on a dictionary assignment.  The students will reading a fractured fairy tale. 

The Fall Scholastic book fair will be in Nov the week of Nov 7 - 11.
