Newsletter for May 14-18, 2012

Guided Reading:  Students will complete a story map identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution of a story.

Working with Words:  The students will review the word wall word list through different games and activities.  No spelling test on Friday!

Math:  First grade students will compare fractions, such as 1/2 >1/4.  We will complete a  Progress Check for unit 9. Second grade students will begin a new unit on decimal notation, money and place value.

Science/Writing:  Students will discover why plants have roots in soil.  We will record our observations in our science folders.

Social Studies:  We will continue our study of different careers in our community.  We will learn about jobs from staff at Neosho School.

Extra Notes and News:  Our field trip to the Milwaukee County Zoo is on Friday, June 1st.  Please send in payment and permission slip by Friday, May 25th.

Early Release is on Tuesday, May 15th.  Students are dismissed at 11:30.

This Friday, May 18th,is our Neosho Walk-a -Thon.  The students will walk with their classes on Friday afternoon, at approximately 1:30.  Our route is 1 mile, through Neosho village.  Encourage your child to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, (no sandals or flip flops!)  Your student may bring along a water bottle if he or she wishes.  Fitness can be fun!
