Welcome to the 2010 -2011 School Year

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

2010 - 2011 School Year

Teacher: Mrs. Laurie Quinn

Our school theme this year is Neosho’s Got Talent!  We all have talents; academic, musical, athletic, artistic and so on.  So let’s share these talents and celebrate them!

We will all work together to make our classroom the kind of learning environment in which everyone is valued and everyone is challenged to learn to the best of their ability. We will emphasize being good classroom citizens by being responsible, respectful, trustworthy (honest) and caring. Our class mascot this year, Buddy Bear, will help us make good choices.

I will send home a weekly letter every Monday (or the first day of the week) to let you know what we will be doing for the week. This week we’ll be getting acquainted, reviewing our new textbooks, and settling into our routine. Spelling and math will be a review of first grade material. Students should bring in a summer memory (a souvenir, picture, something they made, a story). This will be the subject for their 1st writing assignment.

A reading minutes calendar will be coming home today for the month of September. Students are required to read at least 15 minutes each evening and record the minutes on the calendar. The monthly goal is 300 minutes! Please help your child keep track of their reading minutes and return the calendar to school by September 30th.

I have high learning and behavioral expectations. There are rewards for appropriate behavior and best effort, consequences for inappropriate behavior or poor effort.

Students are responsible for bringing their own snack to school this year. Please make it a healthy one!

I am looking forward to working with you as a partner in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Laurie Quinn
