                              Kindergarten Newsletter

                                   January 3rd-6th

Welcome back to school! I missed all of your children. It was nice to come back and see everyone. J

Thank you for all the wonderful gifts for the classroom. We have so many nice things. Thank you so much!

Next week we are finally back to a letter and star of the week. The letter will be Ll. Please have your child bring in something that begins with Ll on Monday. Our star will be Samantha.

Reading: This week we did some review work. We reviewed our sight words. We also reviewed the letters and sounds of the alphabet. We read some of our easy readers. Next week we will read another one of our books in our reading series.

Math: We counted backwards from 10. We reviewed the names for all of our shapes. We also reviewed the names we learned earlier this year such as rhombus, hexagon and trapezoid. I put them into partners and they had to construct something using all of those shapes. They did a super job. We began addition this week. They picked up the concept right away! We talked about the addition sign. We also did some addition story problems on our white boards. They used their calculators to do some addition problems.

We sang a fun song on our smart board about the numbers up to 100! They loved it. We also practiced the number 9 in our workbooks.

Science/Social Studies: We talked about all of the four seasons. We sang a song about them. We also talked about winter and listed some characteristics of it. We began our unit on snow. We will continue that next week. I read books about snow. If there is anyone that would like to donate big marshmellows and graham crackers next week, let me know! I would like the kids to make a snowman using those yummy treats! I will supply some of the other materials. I would like to make them on Wednesday. Thank you so much! J

I am sending home letters that explain the activities that I do in my classroom for rest of the school year. They are meant to enrich or review some of the concepts we are learning in the classroom. If you have any questions about any of them, please let me know.

I will be sending home book bags with a book for your child to read. There will be a short book report for your child to do. Your child will not get a book every night. It will be on a rotating schedule.

Have a great weekend!
